BT Lighting Series
By Claus Bonderup & Torsten Thorup
Architects Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup met whilst studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After graduating, the pair embarked on a partnership lasting more than 20 years. Spanning international architecture, furniture and watches, it is their geometric modernist lighting collection that commenced their partnership with Carl Hansen & Søn.
A geometric modernist revival
The BT Lighting Series, designed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was inspired by the compelling shapes of geometry. Owing to its minimal, functionalist expression, the BT1001 Pendant No 1, BT1041 Calot Pendant, and BT1091 Confetti Pendants are as relevant today as 50 years ago, complementing both modernist and contemporary interiors alike. All three designs in the series feature a striking half-mirrored light bulb visible beneath the shade. Designed to highlight the interplay between light and dark, the exploration of light is also evident in the soft illumination of the white interior lamp shades contrasting the steel or brass exterior.
