Opala Lighting Series
By Hans J. Wegner
Carl Hansen & Søn proudly welcomes Hans J. Wegner’s Opala Lighting Series to its lighting collection. Being world-famous for his iconic chair and furniture designs, Wegner also created a number of striking lamps during his career, shaped through industrial materials like steel and aluminium that offered new ways of working with his human-centred design.
Shapes of Illumination
Designed for the Hotel Scandinavia in Copenhagen in 1973, the Opala Lighting Series presents versatile lighting solutions through a distinctive, almost futuristic aesthetic that punctuates any space. The series consists of a table lamp, floor lamp and pendant that explore playful asymmetric shapes. Ideal for a variety of interior settings, the collection emits a softly subdued focused light that diffuses outwards to pleasantly illuminate the surrounding space.

Hans J. Wegner
Hans J. Wegner’s world-famous furniture continues to carry influence within modern homes today. Even if not familiar by name, one will most likely have experienced a Wegner design in their lifetime.
A cabinetmaker first and foremost, Wegner’s curiosity for materials and a deeply rooted understanding of the characteristics of wood led him to create a whole new typology of furniture design that would forever put Denmark on the map as the birthplace of modern design.
