The CH78 Lounge Chair was originally introduced by Hans J. Wegner in 1954 as an extension of his compact CH71 Chair. In 2024, Carl Hansen & Søn commemorates the chair’s 70th anniversary with a celebratory special edition presenting a new woollen upholstery with a subdued colour palette. The upholstery, Umber, lends its name from the earthy brown pigment umber. The fabric’s sophisticated aesthetic is enhanced by its hand-crafted quality, creating a soft surface that brings comfort, calm and serenity to any space. Among Danish furniture designers, Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative and prolific. Often referred to as the master of the chair, Wegner created almost 500 chairs in his lifetime – many of them considered masterpieces. He is probably best known for his iconic Wishbone Chair which has been in continuous production since 1950.
