A RARE AND WARM TOUCH
Carl Hansen & Søn reinterprets iconic designs in exclusive mahogany
Mahogany is a tropical hardwood renowned known for its deep, uniform color and grain characteristics. Historically, mahogany has been used to make furniture since the 15th century. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the exotic wood was the preferred material for furniture-making, prized for its workability and stability. Today, we craft our mahogany furniture from FSC™-certified wood (FSC C135991) to ensure the sustainability of forests around the world.
The rich, red color of mahogany lends a luxurious tone to some of Carl Hansen & Søn’s most well-loved furniture designs — namely Hans J. Wegner’s iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair and CH337 and CH338 tables, now offered in the exclusive and noble wood in a nod to their original expression of the 1950s. Treated with water-based oil to accentuate the grain and protect from spills, the tables are flat- and crosscut for a harmonious surface finish that underpins each design. The mahogany edition of the Wishbone Chair has a beautiful surface with reddish-brown hues, oiled, too, for a natural and protective finish.
