The padded cushion is upholstered in Agora Life textile, a weather-resistant and recycled fabric and features visible seams which align with the width of the wooden slats to ensure a clean and balanced design. Born in 1970, Gudmundur Ludvik grew up in Iceland where he from an early age became curious to know how things are composed. His love and appreciation of wood and craftsmanship led Ludvik to train as a carpenter and, after working in construction for several years, he continued his studies at the Icelandic Academy of Arts where he studied sculptures. As part of his training, Ludvik moved to Copenhagen in 1999 to study furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy. Shortly after finishing his studies, he established his own practice, Studio Gudmundur Ludvik, from where he found his playground in pursuing opportunities within crafts, art, and design. Gudmundur Ludvik’s professional composite background has provided him with a deep understanding of material properties as well as production methods and technology. In addition to running his own studio, Ludvik established the industrial design studio Welling/Ludvik in 2010 together with his former co-student Hee Welling. Today, Ludvik enjoys the synergy and variability from working both as part of a design duo and solo, creating the optimal conditions to rethink and renew design. Although Gudmundur Ludvik has lived and worked in Denmark for more than 20 years, he is still very grounded in his Icelandic roots and visits Iceland frequently to enjoy the contrasts and wildness of the unique, Icelandic nature.
