In his first collection for Carl Hansen & Søn, industrial designer Mads Odgård combines his appreciation for logic and minimalism with a series of lighting that celebrates straight lines and pure geometry. Following in the footsteps of Hans J. Wegner and other Danish design legends, Odgård brings his experience studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts to this functional and harmonious collection of lamps.
A Sense of Comfort
The MO Lighting Series explores the uncomplicated elegance of essentialist design, in which Odgård removes superfluous detailing to arrive at a collection that achieves broad appeal through a timeless aesthetic. Offering a pleasant and focus task light, the versatile series is suited to illuminate a variety of settings and interiors. The MO Lighting Series is designed to bring a sense of serenity and warmth - inspired by the comforting effect that light has on the human experience, especially during the dark days of winter. Odgård chose to focus on two familiar shapes: the hemisphere and the cylinder, forms with clear connections to the natural light of the sun. With a balanced expression, the series displays universal comforting qualities that feel timeless yet contemporary.

Mads Odgård has always had a love for straight lines, right angles, and geometric shapes. This love shines through in his professional design work, the interior design of his own home and when landscaping his garden. If he doesn’t know where to begin when creating a new design, he simply starts by drawing a straight line. This minimalist mindset is evident in Mads Odgård’s design portfolio, which includes the lamps of the MO Series – his first collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn.
